This large format [46"] touchscreen kiosk was authored in Flex and was created to support Accenture's Smart Grid, Smart City worldwide consulting credentials in this field.
It incorporated HD videos, general Smart Grid, Smart City descriptive video, presentations, and a comprehensive Flex based embedded application that graphically demonstrates different scenarios, and the effectiveness and implications of Smart Grid, Smart City implementations.
The kiosk was produced in English and Chinese versions and is used in a variety of exhibition and conference situations throughout the APAC region.
For a period it was housed in the foyer of Parliament House in Canberra.
This system was developed to administer, manage and deliver online entry/registration, online/realtime scoring and online/realtime results for fishing competition events, based on a mixture of delivery methods:
- desktop (Mac or Windows),
- Android tablets(or phones),
- and web.
Backend and services utilise MySQL and PHP.
The overall system was developed utilising a number of different frameworks and technologies to meet requirements, with touch and mobile delivery as 'front of mind'. All apps are developed to an MVC structure.
System Components:
ADMINISTRATION: An authenticated administration system developed in Apache Flex and run as a desktop AIR application, that has facilities to maintain database records(CRUD) for, Anglers, Teams, Boats, Events, Registrations, Payments, Event Results, Team of Year(TOY)
- Angler details are synced with MailChimp database allowing for mailouts of newsletters and event notifications
RESULTS: A results display system developed in Apache Flex and that runs as a desktop AIR application for realtime/live display of competition weigh in results at event days (usually displayed on 55" LED screens). Screen displays the TOP TEN, and the remaining entrants from 11 - 999 in a sliding banner at the bottom of the display
REGISTRATION - INTERNET: A registration application developed in Apache Flex and run as an internet web based Flash application, that allows new entrants to enter for event(s), and returning entrants to manage their team/boat records, and also register for event(s). This application also has full online payment system with SMS and email confirmation on acceptance of payment.
REGISTRATION - DESKTOP: A second registration application developed in Apache Flex and run as an AIR application on desktop machines, was developed for on the day registration and payment - payment can be optionally toggled by the entrant to pay online with credit card or pay at the registration counter with cash. As above this app allows new entrants to enter for event(s), and returning entrants to manage their team/boat records, and also register for event(s). This application also has full online payment system with SMS and email confirmation on acceptance of payment.
WEIGHIN: Weighin applications were developed in Apache Flex that can be run either as a desktop (admin applications), and/or as an Android tablet based apps for event day entrant usage.
- Weighin is divided into two apps, fishing teams on completion of fishing, enter their id(taken from their event registration record) into one of the multiple Android tablets available at the event. They are then placed in a queue for fish weighin,
- the second weighin entry app selects the entrants from the queue(in the order they were queued). Data is then collected by this app for competition weighin (number of fish, weight, etc). This information is written to the database in realtime and available for immediate event result display. Results are also provided as they are entered to competitors via SMS to their mobile phones.
PHONE APP: A phone app is also available (currently Android), that shows,
- Historical and current event results, filterable by Year and Event, Top Ten and remainder
- Historical and current TOY (Team of the Year) results, filterable by Year and Event,
- Upcoming Events show a list of events, detailing dates, location, region and map details(if available)
- Historical Statistics filterable by Year and Event, showing fish counts, weight counts, by region statistics, and team statistics
WEBSITE: There are also complimentary HTML/PHP pages available on the competition website for display of realtime and live results, and entrant lists for upcoming events
This system is currently being utilised by Australian Fishing Tournaments for their Gamakatsu Team Series, but is available for other fishing tournament operators - please contact us for discussion on options available for rebranding and usage.

This presentation, in Flash, was developed primarily for the Legal Tech Conference in New York, but has also been designed to be included on the DocsCorp website - also constructed by Crossroads.
The content was designed to be multitasked. Controlled by an XML file, parameters can be set to control the playback environment [CD-ROM, Web, Presentation].
In the Web or CD-ROM environment the 5 sub-component presentations are controlled/accessed via the interactive menu structure.
In the presentation mode the 5 sub-component presentations loop continuously for display on a conference stand in large screen format [1280x800 pixels].
The inclusion or exclusion of any of the 5 sub-component presentations, and their order, is also controlled via the XML file.
The presentations, in 'web' interactive mode [640x400 pixels] can be viewed by clicking here. Please check on DocsCorp website for the latest product news.

Crossroads developed five of the seven interactive displays for the Powerhouse Museum in the Nuclear Matters exhibition.
ANSTO [Large Touchscreen Interactive]
Describes the functions and products made at the ANSTO facility, with a series of videos, text, interviews, and graphics.
Fuel Comparator [Peddle Driven Interaction]
Showed comparisons of the various methods of generating power and the comparative effort required to produce power by peddling on a bike. In this case the requirement was for interaction with mechanical devices (e.g. push bike peddles) via USB/RS232 for example in the Fuel Comparator interactive.
What's Radiactive? [Large Touchscreen Interactive]
This interactive showed a variety of scenarios of exposure to radiation that surrounds us, and had a counter of daily exposure in those scenarios.
Ice Core [Large Touchscreen Interactive]
Mainly video based this interactive had a number of informative videos of Arctic/Antarctic investigations by scientists drilling into the Ice Core.
Fusor [Large Screen Interactive]
This interactive was interactively driven and guided the user through a series of drag and drop interactions to build a 'Desktop' Cold Fusion power generator.
These interactives can be seen in the Nuclear Matters exhibition at:
Powerhouse Museum
500 Harris Street
Ultimo NSW
Crossroads developed an interactive display for the Powerhouse Museum in the Wiggles exhibition. This is projected onto a large screen - life-size - so the kids can identify with Jeff.
Wake Up Jeff [Projected Interactive]
This is an interactive that encourages the kids to Wake Up Jeff, who is renowned for sleeping.
There are a number of video segments, that are triggered by the loudness of the kids shouting for Jeff to wake up - this is captured by a 'hidden' microphone. The microphone loudness is displayed in the loud/louder/loudest VU meter.
If they are not loud enough then Jeff doesn't wake up and the next video segment is displayed encouraging them to shout even louder to wake Jeff up.
Once Jeff has woken up a video of all the Wiggles is displayed in near full screen.
This interactive can be seen in the Wiggles exhibition at:
